Our Mission
The mission of The Alberene Foundation is to preserve the history, facilities, and material culture of The Alberene Soapstone Company and create a venue to transfer knowledge of Virginia soapstone and its use in art, architecture, and commerce through classes, demonstrations, and tours.
The Alberene Quarry School of Crafts’ establishment in a working soapstone quarry will serve as a vital resource for preserving and celebrating the history of Virginia Soapstone sculpture, fabrication, and the practical crafts that supported a vital industry. Through its comprehensive programs, exhibits, and demonstrations, the center will enrich the local community, offer economic opportunities, and foster cultural appreciation.
The Alberene Foundation is a newly established 501c3 nonprofit organization.
